We’re of course referring to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game (PFRPG), an RPG that some D&D fans now prefer over the original brand it’s based off of. Back in the 3.5 edition game days, Paizo Publishing - the company that previous published Dungeon and Dragon magazines - had lost their contract with Wizards of the Coast so they continued publishing Pathfinder issues instead.
When the 4th edition was going to release under a strict license, Paizo spent a year designing Pathfinder based on the 3.5 edition since it had an open license and released it in 2009. Needless to say, they succeeded and have a hit on their hands. Part of that was thanks to D&D fans still preferring the 3.5 edition rules over the 4th edition. It’s no surprise then that Paizo is jumping into the realm of video games, and have partnered with RPG veterans Obsidian Entertainment.
Obsidian and Paizo announced this week a long-term licensing partnership to produce electronic games based on its popular Pathfinder Roleplaying Game intellectual property and it will begin a tablet game based on Paizo’s Pathfinder Adventure Card game, a 1-4 player co-op title with all of the fantasy RPG tropes, from playable classes including rogues and wizards, character attribute points for strength and wisdom, etc.
