Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder announced Friday the school and its basketball coach have “mutually agreed” to part ways after eight seasons. ESPN originally reported the story Saturday.

“I like Travis Ford and his family,” Holder said in a statement released Friday. “He worked very hard at his job. Unfortunately, we have to move on.”
The Cowboys were just 3-15 in the Big 12 this season, and finished the year with a 12-20 mark after losing to Kansas State in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament. Ford was 155-111 over his career at Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State made five NCAA Tournament appearances in eight seasons under Ford, but advanced past the first game just once. The lone first-round win came in 2009, Ford’s first season, though the Cowboys lost to top seed Pittsburgh in the Round of 32.
Oklahoma State announced in 2009 it had given Ford a 10-year contract extension. The pact included a $10 million buyout.
