Solomon D. Simmons, a Black police officer in Virginia Beach, responded to reports of gunfire at a parking lot on a March night during which several people were injured and at least one woman was killed. Simmons reportedly saw Lynch holding a gun, which Simmons believed he was pointing at the crowd to fire at the people and police officers in the parking lot. Prosecutors said in a press conference Tuesday that Simmons yelled something at Lynch....

Brooks, a 27-year-old African American man, was fatally shot by a police officer in the parking lot of a Wendy’s drive-thru restaurant during a struggle on Friday evening, authorities said. The shooting prompted protesters on Saturday night to set fire to the Wendy’s restaurant where Brooks was killed and block traffic on a nearby highway. Police fired tear gas in a bid to disperse the crowd outside the restaurant, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution....

The Monster Hunter Rise and Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration event was revealed as part of Capcom’s Tokyo Game Show Livestream. Later, a new trailer would showcase the game’s special equipment that can only be obtained by completing special event quests, and reveal that the event itself would be available on November 26th to all players. The Ohio Supreme Court ordered the commission to submit new maps by Friday, after two previous proposals were rejected as unconstitutional gerrymandering. The members have until noon February 23 to explain why they should not be found in contempt for failure to comply with the court’s order. “We are dangerously close to possibly violating federal law,” Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose said, according to The Columbus Dispatch. Since September, the commission passed two sets of maps that were found unconstitutional by the Ohio Supreme Court....

Sheffield Village Police Lieutenant Aaron Bober said on Saturday that James Kimbrough III had been captured and was taken into custody at around 7:30 a.m. ET, according to a report from Cleveland 19 News. Sheffield Village is about 25 miles from Cleveland. The 34-year-old Kimbrough is suspected in the murder of 24-year-old Milenna Lopez, which took place in the parking lot of a McDonald’s on Detroit Road on January 6, 2022....

The College Football Playoff committee released the final pairings for the first ever four-team playoff on Sunday. The matchups will be Alabama (11-1) vs. Ohio State (12-1) in the Sugar Bowl and Oregon (11-1) vs. Florida State (13-0) in the Rose Bowl. Former Ohio State walk-on Kosta Karageorge was found dead in a trash bin on Nov. 30 with a gun in his right hand. Dr. Anahi Ortiz waited on neuropathology reports on Karageorge’s brain before making the Friday announcement. She said her previous assessment that Karageorge committed suicide will not change. Investigators looking into Karageorge’s death determined that he and his girlfriend broke up on Nov. 26. After retaining his text message records, investigators discovered that Karageorge texted his ex-girlfriend that he wanted to talk, to which she replied for him to leave her alone....
