Todd Jones, 56, and his sister, Laurel Hoffman, 54, both face charges of grand theft and falsification in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. They are scheduled to be arraigned on the charges later this month. When reached by phone Tuesday evening, Jones declined comment to Newsweek. Hoffman could not be reached for comment. Dave Williams stunned everyone with his rendition of “Unchained Melody” by The Righteous Brothers. Hacktivist non-profit Extended Reality Safety Initiative, or XRSI, announced on its blog ReadyHackerOne that the group had achieved root access on the Oculus Quest 2, allowing it to bypass the Facebook login during the setup process. According to founder Kavya Pearlman, the group is “currently working to gather assurances to protect the individuals who discovered these methods of jailbreak.” To phrase it differently, Facebook will probably seek legal action against anyone that releases exploits for its hardware, and the XRSI is preparing for that possibility....

When the Oculus Quest 2 launched, many expected it to have an improved refresh rate compared to the original headset. That’s because the original Oculus Quest was limited to just 72 Hz, allowing up to 72 frames per second. The Oculus Rift, Facebook’s first headset, by comparison, offers 90 Hz and the more recent Valve Index offers 120 Hz (or even 144 Hz in overclocked mode). Nevertheless, the Oculus Quest 2 also launched at 72 Hz....

Companies like Sony, HTC, and Oculus have been showing off and discussing their respective VR headsets for years, and gamers have been clamoring for a chance to get one. So it comes as no surprise that as the major VR systems release to the public on a wide scale, there’s a messy legal battle brewing around the Oculus Rift VR headset....

Luckey framed the entire series of posts with the idea that Oculus, as well as their VR competitors, are bending over backwards to make this first generation of headsets as affordable as possible. Rittmanic and her partner Officer Tyler Bailey encountered Xandria Harris and Darius Sullivan on December 29 when they were called to a noise complaint at a Comfort Inn. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that at a bond hearing for Harris, Kankakee County State Attorney Jim Rowe said Sullivan had used his gun to shoot Bailey in the head. As of the Monday hearing, he was hospitalized and “fighting for his life,” Rowe added....
